HowManyTrees was created by two friends having a great passion for enviroment. The two friends: studied Engineering; worked in heavy industry; learned what environmental impact is; calculated CO2 emissions. Now they are trying to share this passion with all those who want to leave a better world to their children. Always attentive to the environment, for several years they managed an organization dedicated to group food purchasing, with the objective of buying food that is good (first of all !!) and environmentally friendly (organic, 0 km, etc.). In order to better guide them in every choice, they created a quantitative methodology to define how much a product is sustainable from an enviromental point of view. Carbon footprint was idnetified to be the best method because it calculate the carbon dioxide emission of a product from its manufacturing phase to its scrap, obviously passing through its use. This method was so effective that the two guys tried to apply it in all the choices of our daily lives, having as result an indication of the relative impact of choices on the planet. In doing so they extended the indicator to mobility, to buildings, to services, and so on. Everybody know the economical impact of a product, service, choice or action. Now, with this new method, they have an indicator of the ecological cost, expressed in CO2 kilograms or equivalent number of trees. This website was born thanks to this long and deep experience.
